If your old plasma television has finally stopped giving you a clear picture and it is now time to look for a better set, you may find some surprising technological breakthroughs. While looking around, you may find that televisions are now referred to in many more letters that just the plain old TV. The many different types of televisions now include LCD, Plasma, DLP and LED TVs. Purchasing a new television will also allow you to give up that bothersome converter box since all the new televisions are high definition or HD and digital ready. Nowadays, you can find many different cheap plasma TVs and LCD TVs, but if you want the latest technology, you should look into LED televisions.
In LCD televisions, those little diodes that make up the pixels of the screen were lit from behind with fluorescent tubes. Since these lights are always on, these screens do not always show the darkest of black colors. Sometimes this may be due to light leaks and at other times, it may be because of the limitation of fluorescent light. Fluorescent lighting also does not display all the colors in the rainbow, so the colors that can be shown on the screen are therefore limited. That is the reason fluorescent lighting can limits the colors shown on a TV set, while LED lighting can offer a better range of colors.
When buying a LED TV, you will want to know about two different types of LED TVs. One is to have the light emitting diode lights set along the edge of the TV screen and it is what is called an edge lit LED television. The other way is to arrange them behind the screen in a setup called a back lit LED TV. If you are concerned about energy consumption, both of these LED technologies use less power than a fluorescent tube plasma or LCD screen. The edgelit LED TVs are cheaper and can also be extremely thin.
The backlit LED TV will give you a better viewing pleasure if you are willing to pay a little more. If the sharpest deep dark black colors are what you are looking for, you will want a backlit LED television.
If you don’t know where to look, you can end up paying up to two times as much for a LED backlit TV compared to a similar size plasma or LCD TV. To find the best LED HDTV deals, be sure to compare the prices and features at your favorite store and also at the various online discount bargain websites.
