YouTubing Your Way To Anywhere

By norman | December 2, 2009

I have always wanted to be able to make videos of my songs, and many other things like commercials for businesses I’m involved in, for a long time. I finally bit the bullet and bought our family a Canon Powershot SX10-IS. It is a fantastic tool. Not only does it take awesome still pictures with a zoom you wouldn’t believe, but it’s also an excellent video camera all in one. The learning curve for both functions is amazingly quick and easy. And, it only cost me $370 on sale at Best Buy.

I’ve recorded and uploaded 45 songs plus a few commercials to YouTube already, and I’ve only been doing it for 5 months. It’s incredibly addictive. I just set the camera on my office window sill and go for broke. The camera comes with great software so editing is a cinch. Do it a few times and the next thing you know, you’re up at 4 in the morning creating your way to video Nirvana.

Here’s all you do:

* Get a video camera.

* Buy a tripod if you don’t have a good window sill like me!

* Get an 8-gig video card or two, one for pictures and one for videos. An 8-gig card will give you an hour of video time, and tons and tons of pictures, though I have no clue exactly how many.

* Buy a few sets of rechargeable batteries. Though you can connect with a power chord, I never do.

* Don’t sweat the small stuff. Just start recording and do numerous takes until you can live with the one you want to upload onto YouTube, or any other of the many video services out there.

* Now, get your free YouTube account and start uploading. You can also make your very own personalized channel and send all your friends to it. In addition, there is the capability to have your videos instantly posted on Facebook, Twitter and Google (Google owns YouTube), if you so desire.

* FYI: uploading can be a little flaky at times. I had lots of success using Windows Vista, but since I bought my new computer which runs Windows 7, it’s been much more difficult. However, I’ll bet by the time you read this, YouTube will have corrected the problem as they’re usually right on top of things.

The video world is now your oyster!
